My husband, daughter and I are starting out on our journet to emigrate to Australia and are both excited, yet cautious, in our expectations.
In order to secure a visa to live and work in Oz, we will need to obtain a Regional work visa on my husband’s employment as an Occupational Therapist. I am particularly keen to live in Queensland but, due to the Regional restrictions, we cannot work in Brisbane thus I would welcome advice as to those regional Queensland areas where both my husband and I can gain employment. I am am Senior Buyer for Jaguar Landrover in the UK so similar work in private industry or Queensland Government (ie, commercial senior roles) is what I would be looking for.
Please can you advise suitable regional areas in Queensland where we may be able to find employment, as well as good education for our (currently) 14-year-old daughter?

Anywhere in Queensland that is not Metropolitan Brisbane or Gold Coast counts as regional. The Sunshine Coast, in my view, would easily be the best destination for you as it has great beaches, lifestyle and it is close to Brisbane. So if you can get work in that area, I would most definitely go for it.

Moving to Sunshine Coast in a few weeks and looking to buy property in the North Hinterland. Coming from up North it’s going to be cold! Any suburb recommendations for a family of 4 with tweens. Thanks
I don’t know the area that well, although I have visited on many occasions. Seems to me the ‘biggest’ three towns are Montville, which is very touristy with lots of restaurants and gift shops, Maleny and Mapleton. But I just checked online, and between the three of them, the population is no more than about 6000 to 7000. The Sunshine Coast hinterlands are beautiful, some fantastic views across to the coast, but it is all very quiet and countrified.
Hopefully someone else who knows this area better than me can give you more solid advice. If anyone knows that hinterlands there well, we love to hear from you.
Sunshine Coast is a fabulous place to spend my vacation with fun and joy. I visited visit Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo, UnderWater World marine park, Aussie World with the Ettamogah Pub, The Big Pineapple, the Eumundi Markets, The Buderim Ginger Factory and the Majestic Theatre at Pomona. A local transfer service provider, Black Bow Chauffeur helped us to visit all places with comfort and without any problem.
But I stay for only a week and that is said. I want to stay long. I know its comparatively less small then Sydney but I like the place.
Can you please guide my similar coastal area like Sunshine Coast.

We are looking to move to Queensland and I will be based in Sunshine Coast / Maroochydore.
We currently live in the UK in a market town just outside Birmingham. We prefer small towns and villages for cities.
We are looking at Noosa and the surrounding areas at the moment in terms of a place to live.
We have 2 teenage sons (16 and 14)
Where would you recommend to live?

Jump into a car from anywhere along the Sunshine Coast and drive inland for 20 minutes or so, and you will be entering the hinterlands which are sprinkled with many small towns, some very small indeed. For example, I quite like Mapleton, a very small town, population of around 2000 I think, with a tavern and some stunning views from the hillside.
The Sunshine Coast hinterlands are full of places like that, but the problem with them I think, is that your teenage children will be bored out of their minds. For that reason I would suggest moving somewhere closer to the coast, simply because there would be more going on for your kids to do and yet most of these places are still small towns by comparison.
For somewhere with a small village type feel, check out Buderim. Coolum Beach also worth a look. I really like Mooloolaba, which I prefer to Noosa. Noosa can get incredibly busy in the summer, it’s very touristy and more expensive than the other seaside towns along the coast.

My husband and I are planning on moving up to the Noosa Hinterland with our two children 9 and 11 from Sydney . We would like to buy small average to accomodate a couple of horses. I’ve been researching and can see there is some local pony clubs up there but can’t find any info on riding clubs for adults. I compete and would like to continue to do so but am struggling to find anything on this can you point me in the right direction please ?
Not too far away from there is a country town called Dayboro, I think they love their horses there, worth a Google to see if they have anything that suits. Other than that, I don’t know, but hopefully somebody else who does might see your comment and help you out.
Hi Bob, it’s Nick from Melbourne here. My wife and I are SAD!!!! That is, we’re suffering a bit from the lack of sunshine, here in Melbourne. It’s not too bad at the mo, but it never stays constant which is what we thought it would do, when we arrived a year ago. The winters are pretty crap too. We want to live somewhere where it’s pretty mild all year round, but nice and hot in the summers.
Thus, we are seriously considering moving permanently up to the Sunshine Coast as we’ve always loved the coastal life. So we’re looking at Noosa, Mooloolaba (Thanks to your comments!) and a few others. We’re gonna try and get a couple of week’ hols in next Easter, or before to check it out.
We haven’t dismissed Brisbane, but I’d rather not get stuck in the old commuting lark as I’m driving for an hour to work at the mo. I’m a plumber (Licenced) and my wife’s a PA so we’re quite lucky in that way as we can take our jobs with us where we go.
So we might be neighbours in the future?!!!!!!
We’ve got to stay in Victoria till next October anyway, due to my visa requirements, but I was wondering if you had any more insight into our chosen destinations?

Well, if it’s hot summers, mild winters and sunshine you want, you’ve chosen the right area for sure. As I speak now, it’s about 29°C in the shade here and the sky is an unblemished blue.
You know I love it at the Sunshine Coast and especially around Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, my only reservations about the area is that they tell me there’s not much work to be had up there. I know you say you can both take your jobs with you, but you might still struggle to earn the money you are used to simply because it’s just not as busy up there.
Some friends of mine have recently moved to the area, they’ve gone to Buderim and they love it there. They say it’s got a nice village feel about it. But the guy is an electrician and at the moment is working two weeks on and two weeks off up north in a mine somewhere. If you can get work though, it is a great place to live.
