Hi, I’m trying to find some information on Buderim. Pros, cons, where are the best streets to buy etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
My page called Which Suburb? can help you look into that, but from what I know, Buderim is quite a desirable suburb.
It’s 10 minutes drive from the beach, but most of it is up on a hill so you can actually see the sea from some houses in the area. I would imagine they would be in the best streets, but the links on that page I mentioned should help you more.

I don’t know, but I know somebody who does. Every year I try and remember to take a look at CommSec’s State of the States Report, which looks at some key economic drivers for each of our states and territories. The report comes out every quarter, I think, and you should be able to track the latest one down online.

And having a quick look at that, I’m afraid ‘Construction Work’ got a minus for Queensland, so it wasn’t looking good back then.
I live on the Sunshine Coast.
I have managed 440 businesses throughout Australia so I saw first hand the differences in business opportunities. From my aspect I observed the two toughest markets for jobs is Gold Coast Or Sunshine Coast – the wages earned and opportunities are less.
Now a WARNING I am also an accountant. It does not make financial sense to drive to Brisbane to work. Please do not do it. Every honest person who does do that drive after 5 years will admit they are exhausted AND despite the higher incomes in Brisbane they simply never get ahead.
So why do I live here you may well ask? Simple, it is the most beautiful part of the world that I have ever seen, and I have travelled all over Au except Darwin and the centre where there is limited business there for me. I have also travelled a little O/S. Here offers Sun, Surf and relaxed lifestyle. Also as an employer here I find there are many very talented people available for me to recruit. That suit me but I then sell my products elsewhere and O/S.
This area is beautiful with great people whereas the Gold Coast is more hectic.

Great advice Warwick, I also know a couple of people who have attempted driving to Brisbane to work, one from the Sunny Coast and the other from the Gold Coast, neither of them were having much fun. So sound advice indeed.
But, as you say, if you can find work in the Sunshine Coast, there’s probably not a better place in the country to live. It truly is, as you say, a beautiful part of the world.

I’d like to ask you a question:In the winter the Sunshine coast is can offer some work in the Hospitality or it’s only in the summer season that it offer some work?
I come in Australia in june and I’m interesting in the Sunshine coast or Gold coast but like first time in Australia I’d like to stay near the beach in a hot climate and a place a bit quiter than Gold coast but if it offer more possibility of work I’ll come there.

One of the downsides of the Sunshine Coast is, I’m told, that there is not a lot of work about. I would be pretty certain that there would be more work down the Gold Coast, but I couldn’t tell you for sure how much work there might be in the Sunshine Coast.

Swim Teams and Swim Squads
I am currently living in Canada, and planning to come to Australia later this year for a sabbatical trip (8-12 months working in Oz). We are very seriously looking at the Sunshine Coast region, and looking for some help figuring out how the kid’s competitive swimming world works (e.g. swim squads vs swim clubs; school swimming vs competitive swimming) in the region. Can you or anyone suggest contacts or resources to help get the real scoop on swim clubs? Which ones are more recreational, and which ones are high performers? Which team has the crazy coach that everyone avoids?

This is a very specialised question and you won’t be surprised to hear that I can’t answer it. I do know that Australia takes its swimming seriously, that’s why this country wins so many Olympic medals in the sport. It’s the place to be for swimmers.
But I really couldn’t tell you which club to go to, but somebody here knows. Somebody? Are you there?
