Yea living in the northern suburbs is not gonna go well espicially if you are looking for family friendly places. Trust me when I say this, there are heaps of druggos especially near mill park and Roxy park and there are 12 year olds at the station vaping thinking they are cool. BUT there are good schools. I go to parade and it is the BEST school in the northern suburbs hands down. There are also a few good primary schools like St Francis of assisi. So think about it.
Hi Bob,
I am planning to move Melbourne from Adelaide. Can someone advice me good suburbs in northern Melbourn which has good primary and high school.
Thanks
This is one will need to leave to the locals. I will say though that in the comments on my main page about Melbourne there’s lots of talk about both the suburbs and the schools, so you will learn a lot if you skim through them.
Hopefully though, someone will give you an answer here.
Hi,
I was just wondering what city or suburb is best for people who are into organic food, eco friendly products, independent and locally owned businesses, independent and foreign movies? I now live here in California but I spent half my childhood in Adelaide. I’m just curious maybe someday.
Hi Christy I know SoCal well having lived there many years and still spend a lot of time there. I cant see an equivalent anywhere I know in Aus which I grant is limited. Probably a third of Cali residents if not more willl look for organic, local and all Whilst many in Au will shop local as they dont do ….driiving distance…I dont think there is the demand perhaps because of population. As for films, No lets face it the population of Cali is probably double that of the whole of Australia, demand creates supply. Moving to SA would perhaps be like moving to Boise Idaho only without the potatoes. .
Mark,
Thank you so much for your reply. Very well put. =)
hi which northern family friendly surbubs are nearer to the cbd postcode 3001
Anyone know the answer to this? Bit hard for me to say Stella from up here in Brisbane 🙂 hopefully someone can help.
Hi Bob,
I am a a 22-year old American looking to move to Australia for a year after graduating university. I’m thinking Melbourne, but am worried it is too expensive if I’m going to be working a minimum-wage job. Do you think I can get by like that? And any advice on where to live as a 22-year-old looking to meet people and go out?
Thanks.
Well, young people do survive on low wages, but key to it is cheap accommodation. I can’t advise you where to live though because first it would be a good idea to know where you will be working. You don’t want to be living an hour and a half’s commute away from your job.
For accommodation, we have an online magazine called gumtree where people offer shared house accommodation, even shared rooms if you want to keep the cost to a minimum.
Have a browse through the ads, it will give you a good idea of what you might be able to get.
Hi Zach,
There’s heaps of student accommodation complexes in Melbourne. Also shared accommodation seems to be popular with students. You’ll have plenty of choice. Go on the net to find out. Good luck & happy days to come. God bless you
Bob,
I have been reading about you how you have been so helpful mostly to new migrants to Australia. this so how kind are you. pls how will assist me too in making my dream come through. I have been dreaming of Australia for long. till I read from you. Joshua
Thank you, but whilst I help people gather information about moving to Australia, I cannot help anybody directly. Only MARA registered migration agents can do that, see Would I Qualify?
Hello Bob
Im moving to Melbourne with my wife and 4 yr old twins from India on a 457 visa. Im looking for family friendly suburbs in Northern Melbourne with good schools and child care facilities. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Prince
If you don’t get a response who knows the area well here Prince, it might be a good idea to have a read of the comments on my main page about Melbourne as there is lots of talk about all Melbourne suburbs, including Northern Melbourne. Good luck, Bob
Thanks Bob
I recently moved to Melbourne. I live in Watsonia. It is on the Hurstbridge train line between Macleod and Greensborough. It is a small suburb and very friendly. The best thing about it is it makes feel like a countryside little town. Kind of isolated and quiet but the people here are very friendly. I love it here!
Sounds great Dina, and in some ways reminds me of the kind of place I live in here in Brisbane. I’m about 22 kilometres away from the city to the west, and it also feels as though I’m living in the countryside here and I love it too.
Cheers, Bob
I used to live in Kensington, and for a northern suburb it’s the perfect feeling of suburbia/community but still so close to the CBD. For those new to the city I’d recommend somewhere closer than 22kms to the city, as that is quite the commute to town. I’d say Essendon is as far as you should go. It’s a nice bike ride into the City down the Maribyrnong River. I’ve now moved to Seddon (Inner West Melbourne) which also has a similar feel to Kensington, which is also another good option.
Thanks Ryan, helpful information.
