How to Move to Australia

How I moved to Australia

movingOne of the most common questions I am asked is “I want to move to Australia, where do I start?” And I suppose the answer for everyone is slightly different.

But I do know what the answer was for me was and I have documented the process that we went through to move to Australia, from the initial idea right the way through to finally arriving in Australia with permanent residency status.

But I have realised of late that most of these articles have disappeared into the archives and if you can find them, the titles aren’t very descriptive. Titles like Moving to Australia Part Three and Moving to Australia Part Four.

Yes, very helpful…..

So I have now created this dedicated page called “How to Move to Australia” describing each step I went through along the way to secure my move. Hopefully the short descriptions under each title will make it easier for you to navigate around this category and find what you are looking for more easily.

To read any of the articles in full, just click on the title/link above it. So, let’s start at the beginning……..

Moving to Australia – An Idea

The Idea

This is where it has to start for everyone, with an idea. That idea is simply “I think I’d like to move to Australia”.

6 Ways to Emigrate to Australia

Types of Visa

Here I take a look at six of the most popular kinds of visas to get you into Australia.

Moving to Australia – Part Three

The Application Form

Now it’s time to take a look at the dreaded paperwork and some of the costs involved in moving to Australia.

Moving to Australia – Part Four

The Points System

Deciding on which kind of visa you will apply for and a look at the Australian Skilled Immigration points calculator.

Moving to Australia – Part Five

Backing Up Your Application

More dreaded paperwork. Gathering together the proofs you will need for your Australian migration assessment depending upon the type of visa you are going for.

Moving to Australia – Part Six

Bringing Your Dog or Cat

You’ll probably want to read this if you are hoping to bring your dog (or cat).

Moving to Australia – Part Seven

Finalising the Application

Now it’s time to fill in the application form and provide even more proofs.

Moving to Australia – Part Eight

Waiting

Finally your application is complete and it is in the post. What next? I’ll tell you, waiting! Is there anything you can do?

Moving to Australia – Part Nine

And More Waiting

This is waiting part two if you like. Here I explain stasis and exactly what you are waiting for.

Moving to Australia – Part Ten

The Medical

Nudging ever closer, it’s time to take your medical examination.

Moving to Australia – Part Eleven

Nervous Waiting

The results of your medical examination have now been sent off but you really don’t know if you have passed or failed. More nervous waiting.

Moving to Australia – Part Twelve

Selling Up and Planning Your Move

With your visa now granted, how do you validate it? Also, selling your house and planning your departure. And here’s more help with planning…

The countdown to your move

Moving house is, apparently, one of the more stressful things you will do in your life. It certainly takes a fair bit of reparation and planning, and if you are like me, you will want to make a list of things to do.

If you want help with that, I now have such a list. Please visit…

Moving to Australia – Part Thirteen

The Removal Company

With the house now sold, it’s time to call in the removal company. It’s also time to start saying goodbye to people and places and book your flight to Australia. But where are you going to live when you get there?

Moving to Australia – Part Fourteen

The One-Way Flight

Finally, it’s time to board the plane on a one-way ticket to Australia! This is when your visa gets validated.

Moving to Australia – Part Fifteen

Where’s My Furniture?

More waiting, this time for your furniture to show up. Also, what’s it like settling in?

Talking of furniture, you might like to read my post about what to bring with you. It’s called, rather excitingly…

The End. Almost…..

And that does conclude our story of how we moved to Australia.

But there are many more posts in the Moving to Australia category, please do check them out. Clicking that link you will see the most recent posts at the top of the page. But I just want to bring your attention to a few more articles that may be very relevant to you if you are seriously considering moving to Australia.

Moving to Australia: Baggy’s Story

Collecting your dog (or cat) if you brought one. What can possibly go wrong!

What About My Friends?

And finally I have three articles about missing your family and friends and making new ones……

Goodbye Sam, Goodbye Samantha

First I look at who out of your friends and family are likely to come and visit you in Australia.

Leaving All Your Friends Behind

Second, making new friends, a radical new approach.

The Rules of Making New Friends

And third, the simple rules of making new friends.

And Finally….

It’s a long process, I know. Sometimes you will get frustrated with it, I know we did. But I can assure you that from our experience it is well worth the effort. The time it takes is not so important as the “Yes” at the end. As long as you get in, it’s all worth it.

If you are beginning or going through this process now, I wish you well. Maybe I’ll see you here in Australia soon.

    Hello,
My name is Khamala and I’m a ‘BobinOz-aholic’. Our ‘ pie in the sky’ idea of moving the family over to Australia in a few years time is starting to slowly transform into an actual thing that we are actually going to do. This website is amazing, so much information and I already feel like my heart belongs over there. On the downside, it’s hard to stop reading every single page….
    Thank you Bob!

    • BobinOz June 15, 2016, 11:13 pm |

Maybe I need to open a Bobinoz rehab clinic? 🙂 Look on the bright side, there’s only 1300 pages or so. Good luck with your plans, Bob

Hi Bob, love your website. Full of useful info. Please can you tell me if you have any information on the trades recognition process.

    Many thanks

    • BobinOz June 6, 2016, 4:11 pm |

Thanks Kerry, glad to hear you like it. Unfortunately, no, I don’t have any information on the trades recognition process, there would be just too many trades to cover which would make it very difficult for me to ensure it is all up-to-date and accurate.

So that is something I think you will just have to search Google for for the trade or trades you are interested in. Good luck, Bob

    Hey Bob – Nice Article.
One question – How about seeking job? How much time do you think, as per your study – will a qualified accountant take to find one?

      • Nicola April 18, 2016, 3:57 pm |

Hi Bob. I am an Adult Social Worker, I have emailed recruitment agencies in Oz asking for advice on how to apply for work; still waiting for responses after several emails to them. Reason why I have contacted agencies is that in the person spec, it asks if your an overseas worker looking for employment in Oz. Can you help in this area, is better to apply for a post, then look at visa options, is better to apply to emigrate immediately? I’d like to think I would have a job waiting for me rather than head over and have all the stress. Can you provide best agencies in Oz that would consider a UK, Adult Social Worker.
        Thank you
        Nicola

        • BobinOz April 18, 2016, 9:39 pm |

Hi Nicola, I have to agree with you, at the moment it would be far less stressful to arrive here with a sponsored job waiting for you, getting a job after you have arrived can be quite a challenge in the current climate.

I can’t help you directly or answer your question, but I am going to recommend you read my page Getting a Job or a Sponsorship for further help. You will find lots of useful links, including links to the current skills lists to see whether social workers are on any of them.

Also, check out the package available on my page How to Find a Sponsored Job in Australia, it is well worth the small investment. The downloadable book will give you all the advice you need, including details of all the best agencies in Australia. The same website now also offers a membership option which can really help you in your search for a job sponsorship.

          Hope that helps.

          Good luck, Bob

  • Ash March 21, 2016, 10:13 pm |

    hey it’s Ash here, again,
just got another question, I finish school in JUne of this year and would like to move straight to Australia, I am 16 and have no relations in Australia and will be moving without any relations to, I am a bit confused on which visa I need to apply for and if I can ever move to Australia this year, I should be able to afford to after selling my whole reptile collection *which is very hard for me). which visa should I apply for? can I move in June?
    many thanks
    Ash

    • BobinOz March 22, 2016, 5:14 pm |

You are going to have to talk to a MARA registered migration agent about that Ash, see my page Would I Qualify?

It’s a long and involved process, quite costly too, you’d be hard pushed to be here by June. Good luck, Bob

      • ashley March 22, 2016, 5:25 pm |

thanks mate, funny thing is after I posted that I saw your notice about visa questions above aha. thanks mate

  • Mike March 7, 2016, 11:52 am |

    Hey Bob!

So glad I found your site it’s really helpful ? I have a quick question but I’m a bit of a wind bag so bare with me…

I’m currently in the process of taking my final exam in electric guitar (fellowship diploma) highest degree in music and I was wondering if that I would be eligible for a skilled work visa or a distinguishable talent visa? I want to carry on my career as a guitar teacher or music teacher over in Oz, I’ve checked to see if I’m eligible but the visa system leaves me baffled and confused! It’s all very vague, it’s an internationally recognised qualification and one more thing I’ve searched for teaching vacancies and I’ve had a few come up but I’m not sure if they’re a big enough company to sponsor or even nominate me.

Told you I was a wind bag!
    Cheers Bob!!

    • BobinOz March 7, 2016, 5:27 pm |

It is very confusing, which is why I recommend people speak to a MARA registered migration agent about their options.

If you don’t want to do that yet, you could visit my page about Getting a Job or a Sponsorship, I have links on that page to the various skills lists so you can search to see if you can find anything to match your skills and qualifications.

      Good luck, Bob

  • simon March 3, 2016, 12:51 am |

    • BobinOz March 3, 2016, 8:12 pm |

You can get lots of information on my pages under my Migration Advice section, but if you really are lost then maybe you should discuss your options with a MARA registered migration agent.

  • Beth February 25, 2016, 1:25 am |

    Hi Bob

I’ve only just come across your website and I’m gutted I haven’t seen it sooner!

I have a quick question that may be a silly one so bear with me! My partner and I would like to move to Australia – it is only a recent revelation and it won’t happen for a couple of years yet but when it does say if one is us gets sponsored or gets a skilled work visa – does the other person have to have a similar visa that allows them in or can you bring your partner/family with you on one visa??

I hope that makes sense, any advice would be great 🙂

    Beth

    • BobinOz February 25, 2016, 4:55 pm |

Hi Beth, glad you found me in the end 🙂

The usual procedure is that the main applicant, that would be the applicant who qualifies for the visa, in this case a skilled visa I suspect, can include their dependents in their application.

That’s immediate dependents, so spouse and dependent children. If you have any doubts about the procedure and need help in understanding how it all works, I strongly advise you to seek the help of a MARA registered migration agent.

      Cheers, Bob

      • Beth March 3, 2016, 9:25 pm |

        Hi Bob,

Thank you very much! I just wasn’t sure about that one question. We will be contacting an agent very shortly to clarify the jobs that qualify for a skilled visa so hopefully we’ll be in OZ soon!

        Thanks again,

        Beth

  • Nneka February 18, 2016, 12:08 am |

    Hi Bob,
I dunno if you do remember me, I sent a comment about trying to gain an admission In Aussie. Fortunately , my papers came out yesterday and am about to get my ticket that would take me to the land of Melbourne. Can’t wait to start. Thank you so much for your help. Your website has been very helpful, God bless you buddy

    • BobinOz February 18, 2016, 6:10 pm |

That’s great news, congratulations, well done.

I suspect your qualification for a visa has much more to do with the amount of effort you have put into getting it, rather than what I have done. But I am pleased that my website has been helpful to you in some way.

Hope you get to enjoy this country as much as I do. Good luck, Bob

      • Nneka February 18, 2016, 9:43 pm |

        Thank you : )

    G’day Bob,

I would just like to express my gratitude to you and all of your hard work that you have put into this site for what many others charge for …if only your were a MARA Agent. *Ha!*

Myself and my partner (25/23 respectively) have recently returned to England (Wiltshire) from a trip around QA/NSW for Christmas & New Year. We, like many others, fell in love with Australia as soon as we landed.

We have just began the idea phase and your website is sincerely helping with our ambition to make dreams a reality. I feel as though I have read just about every page your site has to offer and yet I continue to learn more and more. If I am honest though, one of the main reasons we love Australia is swiftly becoming a reason to loathe it.. my gosh, it really is difficult to gain a visa isn’t it!

Anyway Brisbane was our first & favourite location and so I hope to follow in your footsteps sometime soon. My ‘de-facto’ partner works in HR and so has a skilled job (like Karen) – though only on the Consolidated Skilled Occupations List (albeit not currently on the Queensland SOL!) & so we hope that will be our ticket in eventually.

    Keep up the good work.

    Ricki

    • BobinOz January 20, 2016, 2:23 pm |

Thanks for your kind words, glad you like my site. Yes, it isn’t an easy country to get into, we only made it by the skin of our (my wife’s) teeth. I failed completely.

It’s hard, but I hope you find a way. Good luck, Bob

    • BobinOz December 19, 2015, 7:38 pm |

Yes, I think generally speaking it’s true that at least three or four years work experience is preferred, but you really should speak to a MARA registered migration agent about that, they are the only people who can advise you with some certainty. Good luck, Bob

    Hi Bob,
The article which you have described in a step-by-step way is quite interesting. I am Vinod and my spouse have been granted Permanent residency skilled independent 189 visa. We are making our first visit to Perth,WA coming December 1st week and plant to stay there in a week and return back to India. Any other charges to be paid like landing charges and so on…Is it worth to apply for Permanent Residence evidence Immicard now or while making the next entry….Please clarify.

    • BobinOz December 1, 2015, 8:24 pm |

Sorry, I can’t help you with this, please refer to your MARA migration agent to find out what you need to do during your short stay.

  • Linda November 20, 2015, 1:29 am |

My husband meets the basic requirements for a skilled visa. Can you please provide us with the mara contact info? We are from Canada. Many thanks

    • BobinOz November 27, 2015, 8:21 pm |

If you wish to use my MARA agent services, then before you are given his contact details, you need to go through my Visa Assessment Service.

Yes, that does mean you have to pay first, but then you get to fill in all the relevant information needed by my agent to fully assess your situation. If you contact him without having completed the questionnaire, he cannot help, because he does not know your full situation.

This is the only way we run this service and you can read about it in full on the link I’ve already given you. Good luck, Bob

  • nikky October 26, 2015, 9:29 am |

Hello Bob, it’s really nice of you to describe in details how to migrate to Australia. Thank you for being a great hel and inspiration.
I am trying to make an application to the university of Queens land brisbaine to study aerospace engineering and I pretty much do not have an idea of applying to a university so I got In contact with an agency called preparation for life. I have not really gone deep into the application but I have faith and believe positively that it will work out amazingly great.

I just wanted you to wish me good luck, thank you.

    • BobinOz October 27, 2015, 12:06 am |

Hi Nikky, yes, sure, good luck 🙂 I hope it all works out for you. That agency you are using, please do make sure they are MARA registered, you can read more about that on my page called Migration agents.

      Good luck, Bob

      • Megan November 25, 2015, 8:00 am |

What’s the best way to permanently move to AUS as a 20 year old? I know we’re suppose to pay for the assessment service but I don’t think I’d pass so I’m just wondering if you could help put my mind at ease as to what to aim for etc as I would like to start a new life out there.
I planned on coming to AUS on working holiday VESA and re applying for another 12 months (so 2 years in total if that’s correct and possible?) next year with my best friend. We would be staying with either her auntie, cousin or uncle who are residents who could possibly supply us with work, if not they’d help us find some and then we’d eventually look to rent our own place. I would have worked at my medical receptionist/admin job for almost 3 years when I plan to move. This has been an apprenticeship which I have completed business and administration level 1, 2 and 3.
From what I unserstand it’s pretty hard to migrate unless you’re a doctor or in a high profession but I’m still not entirely sure what I aspire to be. I may even decide once I’m over there that I want to study to further my education. I don’t understand why there isn’t an option for younger people to migrate permanently without having major skills

        • BobinOz December 1, 2015, 7:10 pm |

It’s not easy and as you know, I can’t specifically advise you. All I can tell you is that it might help if you had a specific skill that was on one of the skills lists here in Australia, my pages about Visas and Getting a Job or a Sponsorship can help you research that.

If you want more specific direct help, then I’m afraid you do have to speak to a MARA registered migration agent. Good luck, Bob

  • Ayodeji October 25, 2015, 3:08 am |

    Hi,
    Thanks for your great advices.
I’m 46 with wife & 3 daughters. I hold professional certification of Australia Human Resource Institute since 2006. I am seriously considering emigrating to Australia. I’m a Nigerian and lived all my life in Nigeria. Do I stand a chance?

  • Sam September 27, 2015, 5:39 am |

Hi can you advise my son’s ex wants to emigrate to Australia with their one year old daughter. However she is currently a single parent on benefits in the UK. However her mum is emigrating to Australia with her two brothers that have disabilities but are able to work her mum is a nurse. Will my son’s ex who is 19 with a criminal record be allowed to emigrate? They have joint parental rights.

    • BobinOz September 28, 2015, 5:37 pm |

These are not questions I can help you with, see Would I Qualify?

You should also have your son speak to a solicitor, my understanding is that his ex cannot take his daughter out of the country without signed permission from your son, but as I say, your son should speak to a solicitor to get that confirmed.

      Good luck, Bob

      • Sharif November 4, 2015, 1:39 am |

        Hi Bob
My question is do you know any person who can sponsor me from Pakistan to Australia.

  • Alex September 20, 2015, 5:22 pm |

    Hi Bob,

First off a massive thumbs up for all the help you’re giving everyone, top man!

Moving on to my query, I am 21 years old and have qualified from university with a Teaching Degree, I am half way through my first year of teaching, and by July 2016 I will be a fully qualified teacher.
My girlfriend is 25 and has worked in retail as a manager for the past 6 years.
I am looking at moving out to Australia at the end of 2016/start of 2017, my brother is out there at the moment so I’m quite jealous haha!
What visa would suit my current situation?
Also, are the requirements to teach out in Australia the same as England? Ie. Could I teach in Australia with my qualification?

    Cheers, Alex.

    Hi BobinOz,

    • BobinOz September 17, 2015, 6:04 pm |

Sorry George, I have no idea how that works, you would probably need to speak to Centrelink or, as I think they are called these days, Human Services. Good luck, Bob

    Hi Bob,

Im 33 yrs old, married with 1 daughter. I was thinking to move to and work in Australia. I thought if I could leave my family behind and work there first, and when I earned enough $$$ I could then bring my family along. Is it a right move? What kind of visa should I apply?

    • BobinOz September 10, 2015, 2:57 pm |

I think you should have a good look around this website, all the information you need is here.

  • Emily August 5, 2015, 7:03 pm |

Hi I was just wondering if you could help. I have family in Australia my mother niece and nephew are all Australian citizens from birth and my brother and sister who also live out there are citizens by decent. I have just applied for my citizenship by decent. I also have a partner not married but we have been together now 3 years and we are expecting a new born next month we are wanting to move to Australia in the next 3-4 years and wondered if this is possible and what is the best way to do this thanks in advance.

    • BobinOz August 6, 2015, 6:13 pm |

      Hi Emily

This isn’t a question I can answer Emily, only MARA registered migration agents are allowed to advise on how to get a visa. So you would need to speak to a MARA agent about this or, if you prefer, go through my Visa Assessment Service which is done on my behalf by a registered MARA migration agent based here in Australia.

      Good luck, Bob

Hi bobinoz I was just wondering my wife 2 young kids and I would love to move to oz but am not in a skilled job I am a straddle carrier on the container terminal and my wife has been out of work looking after our 2 kids for the last 5 year she was previously a child career what are the chance of us getting a visa or is there any chance do you know thanks very much mark

  • Mark August 2, 2015, 11:22 pm |

Hi Bob. I am 42 and a very qualified individual. (electrician and hgv mechanic amounts other qualifications) we (my wife and I and two young daughters started the immigration process a few years back.)
We were out off once I found out that I was type 1 diabetic! And that that austrailia wouldn’t entertain me??? (this was a migration agents view and wasn’t backed up by any fact or data, just a vague email)
As you are probably aware England is and is fast becoming a place that is not the greatest place to work and live! So we are again thinking of emmigrating….

My question to you is this:

How does diabetes affect the emmigrating candidate…(cost and potential success in gaining residency)

Who can I contact with regards ongoing care (insulin cost and availability etc)

Thank you in advance of your reply and help.

    Mark & family. (Sally-42, Alice-9 and Eleanor-6)

    • BobinOz August 3, 2015, 9:31 pm |

If you Google “Fact Sheet 22—The Health Requirement” you will see the government’s advice regarding health issues. Health is assessed individually by Australian authorised doctors and whether or not you would pass the medical isn’t something a MARA agent can decide. It is for the examining doctor to provide a medical report to the immigration department and the immigration department decide from that whether you pass the medical or not.

If you read that fact sheet, I think you will conclude, as I did, that it is highly contagious diseases and also conditions that cannot be cured and are rather expensive in terms of ongoing treatment that seem to cause the most problems. I know your diabetes isn’t contagious, but I don’t know what’s involved with your treatment. Either way, I can’t advise and I’m not sure a MARA agent could give you a 100% sure answer either.

If you go through my Visa Assessment Service then my agent could assess your options based on your qualifications and you can always ask him his opinion about whether your diabetes might affect your application in a covering email or the follow-up telephone discussion.

I’m sure he will be able to give you some strong guidelines, but as I say, he could not tell you for sure whether you would pass the medical or not.

      Hope that helps, Bob

      • Mark Bishop August 4, 2015, 6:11 am |

Thank you Bob for the reply…an I just add “my wife and I LOVE your web site!” what a breath of fresh air, to find a site full of facts and advice that’s so topical and informative….keep up the great work!
We will be filling in an assessment form once again I think…. Because the urge and draw to Australia is still alive and kicking in our hearts.
        Mark & Sally.

Thanks to both of you for your kind words, I hope your assessment goes well and you find yourself living in Australia soon. Good luck, Bob

  • BobinOz August 2, 2015, 8:34 pm |

Emma and Verna, you both need to speak to MARA migration agents about any possible options you might have. Please read my important notices above.

  • lynn De La Mare July 26, 2015, 7:56 pm |

can you recommend a good agent to help us make the move?

    • BobinOz July 27, 2015, 12:00 am |

Yes, of course, my agent. You can read about how you can engage him to help you on my page about my Visa Assessment Service.

  • Rajeev July 22, 2015, 8:47 am |

    Amazing blog…and thank you Bob,
I have a situation, where I am in the verge of getting my Canadian citizenship, but my PR (as per grant letter) is expiring next month. I wish to move to Australia but do not want to forego the Canadian citizenship. As I have not been much in Australia in the past 5 years, I am not eligible for RRV as no close ties.
So is it possible to travel on Canadian passport (ETA) and then start living there as a permanent resident. Please advise

    • BobinOz July 22, 2015, 7:56 pm |

That would be a question for a MARA migration agent or maybe even by trying to ask whoever was your case officer within DIBP. I’m afraid I simply don’t know all the rules and only MARA migration agents are legally allowed to answer these kinds of questions under Australian law.

  • Phil June 28, 2015, 5:52 am |

Hi Bob my wife and I with our two children ( 9 and 14) want out of the UK and really like the sound of the values that oz has to offer motto mention the people and of course weather.
I run a small 3d Animation studio from home which does really well. I create content for TV commercials and corporates.
I have heard odd hearsay that you need thousands in the bank to be allowed to move over. How true is this? How might I be able to transfer my skills and my knowledge over in oz? I imagine my clients in the UK would quickly fade away with time zone issues.
I have looked through the skilled jobs sections of various websites regarding what is needed in Australia but found nothing in my field .
Surely it must be used over there as much as it is here ? I think it would be best if I went in to work within some kind of creative agency not just for the money but also for the social aspect as coming over and working from home immediately would probably make it difficult at first to find clients and make friends. Any ideas welcome as I know it’s s bit of a unique and niche area. Thanks for all of you hard work helping people out. Top man. Phil

    • BobinOz June 28, 2015, 11:52 pm |

      Hi Phil

Yes, it is a rather unique a niche area, I would not have a clue how to advise you on this. All I would suggest is that Australia isn’t really that much different from the UK in terms of TV, media and advertising, so however you got your business off the ground over there would probably work just as well over here.

As for having thousands in the bank to be allowed to move here, it really doesn’t work like that. Moving to Australia is an expensive business, so you will need thousands, but as far as I’m aware there isn’t a monetary minimum that you need to have in the bank before you got issued with some kind of visa.

That said, there are many criteria you will need to meet to be granted a visa to allow you to move here and work, you can read a bit about that on my page called Would I Qualify?

Hope that helps a bit, good luck, Bob

      • Phil June 30, 2015, 12:14 am |

        Thank’s so much Bob !

hi bob! I am a filipino living and permanently residing in Canada, I would like to know if there is any chance I could move in Australia together with my family for good?

  • Louise June 11, 2015, 4:39 am |

Hi Bob great website! I have been interested in Australia for a year now and really want to make a full move there if I can, I have 2 small children and run an online business, would I be accepted a move across there with an online business? I receive good income from my business and have already done some research to see if it would be as successful over there as it is in the UK and have no doubts it will do fine 🙂 my mum is very supportive and has offered me £20,000 from her house sale if I would like to start a new life in Australia so I would have a nice sum of money to live off while I find my feet and get my business up and running across there.

    Kind regards

    Louise

    • BobinOz June 11, 2015, 6:18 pm |

      Hi Louise

Glad you like my website 🙂

I’m afraid moving to Australia is a little more complicated than that, there are something like 130 different types of visa available and what you need to know is would you qualify for one that would allow you to live here on a permanent basis and work while you are here.

For more information on this, see my page Would I Qualify?.

The only people who can really tell you with any accuracy if you would be able to qualify for a visa would be a MARA registered migration agent, so I suggest you speak to one of those. Or you can go through my assessment service which is mentioned on the page I’ve suggested you take a look at.

Good luck with your plans, hope it works out. Cheers, Bob

  • Tushar June 2, 2015, 5:40 pm |

    Hi Bobin,

This question is basically for my sister. She is a single mother and wants to make a fresh start abroad with Australia being her preference. I am aware of the fact that the process isnt that or simple or easy. However, she is a Ph.D in Psychology and has been a lecturer for the past 5-6 years. As she has a Pd.D, so automatically it makes her a Doctor also. You had mentioned in your post that Doctors and Nurses are required in Australia. So a Ph.D in Psychology with decent amount of work experience in a reputed profession and also being a Dr. professionally, does it work in her favour or not? I know that she isn’t the real doctor as you have mentioned in doctors and nurses.

    Regards,

    • BobinOz June 2, 2015, 9:34 pm |

You need to successfully register to operate as a doctor in Australia, whether your sister can do that or not depends largely on where she received her training. I can’t help you any more, but I can point you to my page about Doctors in Australia, it has some helpful links and information about it.

      Good luck, Bob

  • caz2oz May 26, 2015, 11:44 pm |

    Hi Bob,

Just like to say a great thanks for putting all your advice on this website for us all.
You’re and inspiration and as a result I’ve started a blog to document this process for my partner and myself and what its like to go ‘Agent-free’ (letsmove2oz.wordpress.com). I’m hoping that I can share my mistakes, learned lessons and experiences with like-minded people – and it will be a lasting memory of the life-changing process.

    Thanks, Caz (notquiteinoz) 😉

    • BobinOz May 27, 2015, 9:27 pm |

      Hi Caz

I like being an inspiration 🙂

Good luck with your planned move to Australia, agent free, and also with your website, I hope both go very well.

I now sit in the camp that always advises using a MARA agent, simply because the fees to government for these visas are extremely high and if you put forward an application that fails, you lose that money. Using an agent acts as a kind of insurance against that, because they are very good at putting forward successful applications.

That said, some visas are easier to get than others, depending on your circumstances, so using an agent is not always necessary. I hope it works out for you.

      Good luck, Bob
