Holidaying From Australia: It’s BobinThailand!

I imagine it must have been about 6 to 8 weeks ago we decided to have our first international holiday from Australia. Of all the countries in all the world, we chose Thailand.

As you almost certainly know, the capital of Thailand is Bangkok, and that is where we flew in to on Thursday of last week. We’d been keeping an eye on Bangkok in the two weeks leading up to our visit, on account of the extreme weather conditions the people of that city are having to endure.

Exactly one week before we were due to depart, ABC News posted this video from just outside of Bangkok…..

And then on Tuesday, just two days before we left, this…

Fortunately, we weren’t staying in Bangkok, we were heading straight out on another plane to Phuket Island. Phuket had had a lot of rain too, but nowhere near as much. The danger at Phuket is, apparently, landslides. They have had at least three that I have read about.

So, our first international holiday from Australia sounds as though it’s going to be quite similar to how life in Brisbane was in January of this year.

Very wet!

I’ve also got a punchline for you.

About two weeks ago, before we were aware of these flooding problems, Mrs BobinOz said “Wouldn’t it be crazy to go all the way to Thailand and not spend at least one day in Bangkok?”

“Yes, it would” I agreed.

So we telephoned the airline and made an amendment to our arrangements and for an extra $260 we have now secured ourselves an overnight stay in a hotel in Bangkok at the end of our trip. Anyone who watched the second video would have heard that the people of Bangkok are very worried about the upcoming high tide on the 30th of this month.

Hmmmm, when we will be there then.

If I can, I’ll send you a postcard.

    Hey Bob,

After seeing this, I’m not sure that I want to head down to Thailand! I hear from many friends that have gone there though what a beautiful place it’s meant to be. Still hell bent on China though too.. All that history and great things to see..

    Tony.

It is beautiful, and not always that wet. Well worth the visit. China is on our list too, top of it on Mrs BobinOz’s list.

Nice! I don’t know if you guys prefer to just do your own thing or join tours, but I’ve heard that Wendy Wu tours are meant to be quote good. My relatives went with one of her groups and there was only 3 couples in total which made it easy to move about and a little extra company too.

We did go on a few tours, but not one of Wendy Wu’s. You do have to be careful, some tours can be quite dodgy and even dangerous. Not much going on in Thailand regards health and safety.

Yes, but I didn’t get the job. Never mind, I prefer sunshine anyway.

Thanks James, and yes, we were safe and well.
