Hamilton, Suburb of Brisbane. Very Nice….

We wanted to go out for the day on Saturday, but we didn’t want to go far. So we did and we didn’t.

We went to Hamilton, a suburb very close to the city and probably the most expensive area for property in all of Brisbane. Well, it is by the river.

Brisbane River by HamiltonFirst we took a walk through this new and rather posh looking parade of shops called Portside Wharf. ………

Portside Wharf, HamiltonAh, this is nice, isn’t it?

But what’s that great big thing at the end? The big white building at the end of the street? Yes, we noticed that on the way in. Couldn’t miss it really…

Pacific Dawn Cruise ShipIt’s the Pacific Dawn!

It’s a big boat isn’t it? I’ll come back to that in a minute. But we had our kids with us and needed to get to the park. Elizabeth played in the road on her scooter. Not much other traffic about though.

Roads in the parkThe other two girls lost themselves in the play area…..

Play AreaIf we had have brought Baggy along, he could have gone into the doggy park….

Dog ParkBut we didn’t.

And the girls took themselves off to settle at the parks wooden bench set, henceforth to be known as the wine table. And look, you can still see that the boat towering above everything. Look carefully, above the trees in the centre…..

Wine tableLet me help you out…….

ship closerBut as we walked back about an hour later, the Pacific Dawn had departed. You can just about see it as it heads out to sea……..

The Pacific Dawn departsWhere to? That’s what I wanted to know as well, so I looked it up. I even found a YouTube to show you exactly where it was going….

Now I’m not one for holidaying on a cruise ship, it’s just not my thing. But here’s a tip for any of you who do fancy it. Try to avoid going between December and March. It’s cyclone season.

Now you might think “Yes, but you’d have to be really unlucky…..” – Well, just after finding out where this ship was going, I Googled to see if there were any cyclones around.

The following is a quote from RadioAustraliaNews……….

Vanuatu braced for cyclone Atu

Authorities in Port Vila, Vanuatu, rushed to get vulnerable residents to safety as the cyclone moved towards the capital.

Last Updated: 1 hour 37 minutes ago

People in low-lying areas of Vanuatu’s capital Port Vila were being asked to evacuate their homes on Monday night as severe tropical cyclone Atu intensified.

But as I said, it is a big boat. I’m sure it will be all right.

Anyway, we ended our day out with steak, chips and a couple of beers at our favourite steak house, Breakfast Creek Hotel. That was nice too.
