Yippeee! I’m on Holiday.

Yes, as you’re reading this I’m not here. I’m on holiday.

This is my first major holiday since our road trip back in January 2009. On that occasion we jumped into the car and we went from here, Brisbane, to Yamba – Port Macquarie – Sydney – Bateman’s Bay – Lakes Entrance – Melbourne – Warrnambool – Shepparton – Forbes – Dubbo – Goondiwindi and then back home again to Brisbane.

Now on that particular holiday, we did it all by car, but then you probably guessed that from the “road trip” description. The furthest point we reached was Warrnambool….

Warrnambool - Lady Bay

Now, if you’ve read my free ebook “20 Reasons Why YOU Should Move to Australia” (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Just pop your name and email into the box at the top right of this page to instantly download your free copy of this 99 page goldmine of Australian information) then you’ll know that one of the things I appreciate about living here in Australia is the ability to go on holiday without getting on an aeroplane.

I mention this because Warrnambool is about 1,944 km from Brisbane. That got me thinking. The first foreign holiday I ever took (without my parents) was when I was 18 years old and flew to Malaga on the south coast of Spain. Malaga is 1,678 km from London where I lived in England.

So when I went to Warrnambool by car, I travelled further than when I went to Malaga and I never needed to leave the ground, book in, queue up or go through customs. You have no idea how much that enhances the holiday experience.

So where am I going this time?

Well, I’ll tell you this because I know a few of you like guessing games.

  • We are going to be travelling 2,535 km.
  • There’s no beach where we are going.
  • We are not leaving mainland Australia.
  • This time we ARE catching a plane.

Why? On a different occasion I may well have driven. But this journey would have taken us around three days each-way, driving at least eight hours per day. The reason we are going there is because my sister and her husband are here on a three-week holiday visit from the UK.

It is a place they are dearly looking forward to seeing, but they don’t really want to be spending the best part of a week travelling there and back. So we’re jumping on an aeroplane.

I’ll be telling you all about this place next Monday, you won’t want to miss that. But, even though I’m not here you’re not going to be missing out on any blog posts. By the magic of this Interweb thing, and WordPress scheduling, you will be getting two further posts during this week.

I have a delightful post for you on Wednesday, all about murder. And on Friday, well check in and see for yourself.

Meanwhile, I’m probably sitting in a bar somewhere in, well that’s for you to guess……

Thank you all for your guesses and good wishes.

Kaven, good luck for that big event in June and hope to see you out here soon. Heidi, yes we did have a great time, thank you. Meika, you must be nuts, you’ve been on more than one holiday with them? We lost them in the outback. If they show up again, I’ll let you know. John, you were so unlucky! I really wanted to go to Walkabout Creek and Jabba Point but the other 3 wanted to go a bit further inland. But I’m hoping to visit them next year, when I get my bike fixed.

Todays post will tell you a bit about our holiday, you just need to click Alice Springs.

    Cheers y’all

You said you were flying, so is the distance you gave air miles or land miles? I know you can be a bit sneaky so I reckon you are going to Walkabout Creek and then on to Jabba Point. You can’t fool me! I hope you’re not going to Ayers Rock ( UlaWho?) and then Alice Springs…..what a dump!

    Hi Bob,

I hope you and your family are having a great time together. I know your sister and brother-in-law very well (our families have been great friends for about 25 years) and I have been lucky enough to enjoy their company on many holidays. One of the most memorable was a trip to Nashville and Memphis a few years back.

I thought this was a great opportunity to tell you that I really enjoy your blogs. When the days are dark and dismal in London, which let’s face it, are pretty much every other day, and I feel like I’m a constant treadmill, I can rely on your blogs to provide me with some insipiration!

All the best to you and your family, and I look forward to hearing about the trip!

    Meika

Well Bob I’m taking a guess at “Uluru” (Ayres Rock) its about 3300km drive from Brisbane and most certainly not near any water : )
I just wanted to say how much The Lady and Myself enjoy reading your posts.
We are expecting our first born in June and are in the immigration process to move down from Canada.
Hope your family has a great vacation
