Australia’s Got Talent. Hallelujah!

It’s been a while since I last talked about Australian TV. In fact, it was almost a year ago when I first told you about what’s on television in Australia; I followed that up with a post about the English Premier League football coverage on Foxtel and ended my little TV trilogy with a more detailed article about the Foxtel Digital TV package.

But I saw something on Australian terrestrial TV the other week which completely knocked my socks off, metaphorically of course. It’s very rare that I wear socks here in Australia and I almost never wear them when I am inside the house and certainly not whilst watching TV.

Anyway, before I tell you about that sock knocking off moment, a little background.

American Idol, Series 374 – Foxtel digital TV

Actually, I think its series 9, but either way it’s been going a long time. I’m pretty sure you don’t get this in the UK, but it does show every year here in Australia on Foxtel Digital TV. Mrs BobinOz and I have been regular viewers since our arrival here, it’s our replacement for “The X Factor” which isn’t shown in Australia.

One of the joys of American Idol for us, is it provides us with our fix of Simon Cowell. Just as he is on The X Factor, Simon is a judge on American Idol too. He is joined by, currently, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.

Hopefully one of those judges, or even all of them, read my blog. Because I have something to show them.

Anyway, as I speak, American Idol is down to the last five contestants, one girl, Crystal Bowersox, who in my view deserves to win it, and four guys; Aaron Kelly, Casey James, Lee Dewze and “Big” Mike Lynche.

Just five people left out of the estimated 100,000 that auditioned from a country with a population of around 300 million.

Australia’s Got Talent – Terrestrial TV: Channel 7

Those who live in the UK will be well aware of the format of this one, it’s the same as Britain’s Got Talent. Another show for which Simon Cowell is a judge.

So I watched Australia’s got talent the other night and frankly, I nearly didn’t make it to the end. It wasn’t great. Until this guy popped up.

He is only 15 years old, so therefore wouldn’t be old enough to appear on American Idol. I guess the fact that he lives in Australia also presents a bit of a problem.

But!

If somehow he could have been in the competition, I reckon he would have knocked 300 million pairs of American socks off (metaphorically) and possibly gone on to win it. As well as they’ve done, I think Aaron, Casey, Lee and Big Mike could learn a lot from this lad.

Britain’s Got Talent had some amazing moments, most notably Paul Potts and Susan Boyle. Well, I’ve only seen one programme of Australia’s Got Talent, and already they have already had an amazing moment.

He sang the recently popularised Leonard Cohen song, “Hallelujah” and if you have five minutes to spare you really should give it a spin. Simon, Randy, Ellen and Kara, please tell me what you think of Bobi Andonov……

If this guy doesn’t make it big, I’ll eat one of my hats, including ALL the corks.

Hot DAMN! This kid’s got talent! Thanks for posting. I may even hijack this post myself. I too am not a TV watcher, but hey, if you can filter my TV content this way, that’s all right with me!
