One of the things we really love about camping here in Australia is that you can simply throw all your camping gear into the boot of the car and go off for the weekend to somewhere new, somewhere different, and it often turns out to be somewhere really spectacular. And you can do this with minimal costs and planning.
That’s what we did this weekend, and our chosen destination was North Stradbroke Island. What a terrific choice that turned out to be.
The weather was awful at times, my car broke down and equipment failures meant we had almost no light to cook with by our tents in the evening. Despite all of this we had a fantastic time.
We were only there for two nights and three days but it was such a great break that I think it warrants three videos, it’s the only way I can really show you what it was like to be there.
Watch out for the non human “special guest appearances” on each of the three videos coming your way.
Starting with this one…….
Tune in tomorrow for another video and another non human special appearance. This was a first for us here in Australia, we’d never seen one of these in the wild before.
Hi Giorgia
Whilst I was there I did see a few 4wd tourist vehicles driving around, and in addition to that there is a bus service on the island. So you can go across on the ferry as a passenger and when you get there you will be able to get about.
So I say go for it, you’ll have a great time over there. But you might want to look into booking up some kind of tour service before you leave, just search for “North Stradbroke Tours” in Google and you’ll find quite a few options.
Have a great time!
Hi Bob, I live in Brisbane and I’m trying to plan a day on North Stradbroke Island. My problem is that I’m 16 and I don’t have a driving license, so I was wondering if there is a way I can visit the Island in one day. Do you know about any 4wd daily tour?
thanks,
Giorgia
Yes, Stradbroke is great, we loved it. Aussie do go there for holidays, but short breaks more than anything I think. Lots of people just go over for the day, do a bit of fishing from the beach, that sort of thing.
Do check it out, a long weekend is good. Take a tent.
Hi Bob, nice video, Stradbroke island looks great, is it a holiday destination for the Aussie’s?
Must check it out when I arrive.
