Today is a special day for me and my family. Exactly 9 years ago, on 14 November 2007, we touched down at Brisbane Airport with our Permanent Resident visas to begin our life here in Australia.
As we enter our 10th year living here, none of us have any regrets about the decision we made back in January 2005. One of the main reasons for moving here was so that our daughter Elizabeth could hopefully have a much better lifestyle; well, she certainly isn’t complaining.
Elizabeth started having fun here from the moment we arrived…
Today, if anything, she loves life in Australia even more now than she did back then and she’s still having bundles of fun…
Don’t forget, if you want to see just how much fun we’ve all been having here over the years, you can access my yearly video summaries from my home page.
As I wrote in an article called Moving to Australia: Will It All Work out? ‘It’s a massive move‘ and it is. But when it all works out, which it certainly has for us, it’s more than worth it.
If you’re thinking of moving to Australia or are about to move here, I do hope it works out for you as well.
Supermoon
So how very nice of the moon to choose today then to swing by planet Earth closer than it has been since 1948. I didn’t get the chance to drive over to the coast to see it burst through the horizon, and I have to say the supermoon looked quite average from outside my house…
Here are some much better photographs taken by Facebookers around the country who have better cameras and a better eye for a picture than I do. They also got their shots in before it was too dark, which helps…
I know this supermoon can be seen from all around the world, but I’m glad I’m looking at it from Australia. Here’s to the next nine years and many many more.
Hey Bob, how does the quality of life and standard of living aswell as produce and food conpare to that in france?
I really couldn’t tell you Nathan, I haven’t been to France for more than 12 years. I couldn’t possibly make any kind of meaningful comparison. All I can tell you for sure is I like my quality of life here and the food.
Hey Bob just a question, do you pay more fees and taxes in Oz t
Don’t know what you mean by ‘fees’, that could cover a million things. Taxes though, I think income tax is pretty much the same, see…

Australia probably has fewer stealth taxes than the UK and one big difference is that GST here is 10%, the equivalent VAT in the UK varies but I think is 17.5% to 20% for some items?
Bob only another 11 years to go and then your an Aussie! Tell me truthfully, what did your family say when you informed them of your decision to move to the other side of the world, what did parents and in laws say about removing their grandchild to Australia
Is that when I get to change my name to Bobbo? 🙂
As for my parents, I actually didn’t tell them anything. They departed this planet on an unnamed vessel long before my move. If you want to know what I think about that situation though, check out the following post…

I’m glad you and your family have made such a wonderful life in the outbacks of Austrailia. It isn’t a lifestyle for everyone, but I’m very glad you are sharing your experience there with the rest of us. Thank you, and here’s to another 9 years of loveliness in Austrailia!
Thanks Roger!
