When I wrote the post It’s All Happening in Queensland, I looked at the first three categories out of 10 for Queensland’s top 150 icons. Those three categories were all about people and organisations.
In today’s post I am going to look at the fourth category, which was locations. I was very surprised to see that out of the 15 icons that made this list, I have seen eight of them. Considering I have not been here long and the UK could fit into Queensland 7.1 times, I think that’s good going.
Let’s count down the list of Queensland’s top location icons that BobinOz has been to, along with my incredibly short reviews.
12. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
The world’s largest koala sanctuary. Great, if you’re five years old. Good if you like koalas and kangaroos. And not bad for the rest of us. Thumbs up.
9. Yatala Pie Shop
It’s a pie shop and it sells pies. I can’t get too excited about it, but Australians do love their pies. And as these are good pies, it’s at number nine.
8. Breakfast Creek Hotel
Excellent steaks and XXXX served from the wood (very rare). One of my favourite places to eat, best enjoyed if you arrive by boat.
7. Noosa
A rather posh seaside resort complete with expensive restaurants, cafes, art shops and jewellers. It’s even more expensive if you want to live there. Want a house with a marina? For those who love boats and have deep pockets……….
6. South Bank Parklands
City centre seaside fun. It’s got a man made lagoon complete with golden sandy beach, the river, play areas and places to eat. It’s a lunchtime paradise for the city workers.
5. Big Pineapple
It’s got a train ride, a rainforest tour, an animal nursery and wildlife gardens. I have driven past it a few times but never actually been in. But this is what the big pineapple looks like…..
3. Surfers Paradise
Great beaches, great surfing and the meter maids have certainly proved very popular on this blog. You guys eh, what are you like?
1. Australia Zoo
A well deserved winner. Without doubt, the best zoo I have ever been to. Could it be the best zoo in the world?
The Breakfast Creek Hotel!
Where Breakfast Creek runs into the Brisbane River.
A great spot and a great hotel.
It really is a wonderful old hotel. Verandahs all the way round.
I stayed there once. Had to walk up the corridor to find the bathroom but still a great old hotel.
Yes, it’s a good all round pub and hotel in a really good location. Shame it’s too far for me to walk home, otherwise I’d go there more often.
If only I had a pub as good as that in my suburb.
