A Trip to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

We like to travel and since we’ve been in Australia, which is about 7 and a half years now, we’ve done quite a bit of it. When we had a holiday in Perth earlier in the year, it meant we have now been to every single state or territory capital in Australia.

Except one.

One member of our family though is going to tick that final box next week by visiting Canberra, and it’s not me. It’s not Mrs Bob either.

The school trip to Canberra

Canberra - Parliament HouseElizabeth is super excited, and I mean really super excited, to be going to Canberra on the school trip next week. On Sunday morning we will all be up bright and early to take Elizabeth to the airport for 7:30 AM to catch an aeroplane at 9 o’clock in the morning.

She will be joining 60 to 70 other kids from year 6 as they head off to Australia’s capital city for an ‘educational’ visit. If she has anywhere near as much fun as she had on the last school trip to Tallebudgera Beach School, then she will surely have a great time.

They have a packed itinerary which includes:

  • Black Mountain Tower
  • Royal Australian Mint
  • Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
  • Ainslie Lookout
  • Questacon
  • Memorials on Anzac Parade
  • Australian War Memorial
  • Cockington Green
  • National Arboretum
  • National Capital Exhibition
  • High Court of Australia
  • National Museum of Australia
  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • Embassies Zone
  • Parliament
  • Canberra Zoo
  • Tenpin Bowling

Busy busy busy! Who knew there was so much to do in Canberra?

Elizabeth will be returned on Thursday evening to Brisbane airport at 8 PM.

The school has provided her with a list of things to pack, the most important item being a nice warm coat. Yes, it’s going to be cold in Canberra. Once this four day trip is over though, what on earth are we going to do with a warm coat in Brisbane?

Elizabeth will also be taking a camera, so hopefully I’ll have some photographs to show you when she gets back at the end of next week. Meanwhile, three guesses what this week’s video is about?

Have fun Elizabeth!

Elizabeth

Did the family youngest reporter enjoyed her trip ?

She had a fantastic time Ronny, she absolutely loved it. They packed an awful lot into the four days, so it was a really busy visit. Her favourites were the Australian Institute of Sport and Questacon.

She did take some photographs, but not many, unfortunately the memory stick run out after just a couple of days. It’s a camera she doesn’t normally use, she would normally take pictures with her iPod but they were banned because they didn’t want devices that connect to the Internet.

Once I’ve had a look at the pictures, if there is anything worth posting, I’ll do it later this week.

      Cheers, Bob
