When Mrs Bob and I lived in the UK we loved travelling around Europe. Long weekends, one week holidays, different cultures, different sights, we loved it. It was the one thing we knew we would miss by moving to Australia because, well, Australia is rather remote and detached from the rest of the world.
So it was no surprise to us that when we got here we continued to do a lot of travelling, not so much different cultures this time, but certainly we’ve had many long weekends, one week holidays and we’ve seen lots of different sights.
As you no doubt know, we live in Brisbane. For our travels though, we’ve been to almost all of the major cities now as well as some not quite so major ones:
… and many more. We’ve also done a bit of an Australian road trip as well, so we try to get about as much as we can.
But as you have no doubt noticed, there are a couple of cities, major cities, capitals actually, that are missing from my list. I’ve been threatening to go to one of them for quite a few years now, but I’ve never quite made it.
Why?
Because it is so far away!
If I was still living back in the UK and getting a flight from Heathrow, in the same distance as it takes to get to this Australian city from Brisbane I could have got to Egypt.
I don’t still live in the UK though, I’m not flying from Heathrow and nor am I going to Egypt.
Here’s where I’m heading today…
And I sure am looking forward to saying “G’day” to some Perth people in a pub.
Yes, hooray again Bob, Perth at last. Beautiful city but even more spectacular is the coast and outback of WA. Red earth, miles of wilderness, bright blue Indian Ocean, deep gorges and miles and miles between roadhouses. It’s like going back in time in some of those roadhouses, how the owners manage to stick it out in such remote areas, all credit to them I say… And then there are the bush dunnies ha ha! Deserts, dolphins and whalesharks, enjoy it all!
Oh, I wish we had the time to drive far enough to stop off at some of those roadhouses and kick up some red dust, but that will have to wait for another time. We have 5 days in the city and then another 5 heading south and exploring the coast down to Margaret River.

Hooray Bob! You finally made it to Perth. It looks so beautiful on this video you posted. We’ve been trying to decide between living in Sydney or Perth, so we can’t wait to hear your opinion of Perth!

Perth is cool but some say it’s a boring place to live. Recently, $1 million was spent on building a cactus sculpture there!
Compared to Sydney however, the cost of living is fairly lower. But Perth is very isolated. The 2nd most isolated city in the world (1st being Auckland in the north of Kiwiland).
