The Australian Sand Sculpting Championships 2015

I don’t remember ever seeing this sort of thing going on at Southend Beach when I was a kid, but they certainly have it here in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Tropical Cyclone Marcia tried to put a damper on the event a couple of weeks ago, but the sculptors were having none of it.

They just fixed it all up again allowing this event to run from 13 February through till yesterday.

10 talented sculptors, 10 tons of sand and lots of Disney characters. Let’s take a look…

We were there a few weeks back on holiday from the UK (we did near my family, then Gold Coast – stayed on Chevron Island, then New Zealand for a week). Got to see a few of the sculptures – some mustn’t have been done by then. We saw the Mike/Sully one, as well as the Lion King one, and a Ratatouille one too.

Sounds like you were there before it had officially started then, least you managed to see some of them. Hope you had a great holiday, was it a recce to consider moving here on a more permanent basis?

I could write a very long post on the holiday, but I shan’t. At least not here, and not until things have progressed further. You see, it was intended as a holiday, but now we are seriously considering a move.

    Hi Bob,

It seems like there is so much to see and do in Australia and I’d really like to move there. Just wondering, but did you buy your house before you made your move? Or did you see a house you liked whilst on holiday? I’m considering selling my inherited home to buy a house near Brisbane.
