Canberra: Australia’s Capital and Second Most Liveable City 2013

It’s Friday, time to trawl YouTube.

Two weeks ago I presented to you a couple of videos about Adelaide, because Adelaide had been voted Australia’s most liveable city (again). I decided that for each week after that, on Friday, I would present to you the best videos I could find on YouTube for the other 10 cities that were on that list.

My plan fell apart in only its second week, but for good reason. I wanted to bring you those fantastic videos from the 1 Day in Paradise competition.

This week though, I’m back on track and it’s the turn of…

Canberra

Canberra, which is Australia’s capital and home for many politicians, came second in Australia’s list of most liveable cities. By extraordinary coincidence, the city is celebrating its 100th birthday this year; yes, on March 12, 1913 Canberra was born.

100 years on, what’s it like?

What Canberra residents like about Canberra:

  • It has good roads and very little traffic congestion;
  • It’s a safe place;
  • It’s clean, well maintained and unpolluted.

Canberra residents were not so keen on:

  • The weather;
  • The cost of living there;
  • The entertainment scene.

And now a couple of videos. Well, what can I say? It seems that videos about Canberra are only made by comedians. Three of the most watched videos about the city were, as the British side of me would say, taking the Micky.

What does that tell us about the city? One thing I learnt is that maybe Canberra has too many roundabouts. Anyway…

After an exhaustive search though, I found two videos that I really liked which means, once again, double the fun for you, because I’ve decided to put both of them on my website today.

First up, this wonderful offering from thisiscanberra…

Fantastic stuff!

And now, Canberra: The Musical:

Happy birthday Canberra!
