In 2009, I wrote my first post about Anzac Day and it’s a good place to start for anyone who really doesn’t know what this day is about…. Anzac Day Explained.
I have written about Anzac Day every year since; in 2010, probably my shortest post ever was called This Blog is Closed and 2011 was when Anzac Day clashed with Easter.
Last year I wrote about The Anzac Day Dawn Service and included video from the service that took place on that day in Cairns.
Yesterday was Anzac Day, and, of course, I’m going to mention it again, and will continue to do so every year “lest we forget”.
Anzac Day is a public holiday, but it’s not a day for partying, it’s more of day to reflect, be grateful for what we’ve got and to remember that it came at the expense of the lives of so many.
As well as the dawn services, Anzac Day marches or parades are also held throughout the country in cities, towns and suburbs.
More than 100,000 people turned up to watch the parade in Perth to honour the brave men and women who fought on our behalf. Perth Ten News were there to cover the story…

is it true,do you know,that the gambling game popular with the original Anzacs called ‘two up’ is only legal on Anzac day? it was something I heard whilst in Sydney a while back,but haven’t been able to verify.

That is certainly true in Victoria, but here in Queensland it is always illegal to play that game. Other states have other rules, I’d check with your solicitor before the commencement of said game 🙂
Just a quick update on this one. I was in a pub yesterday on Anzac Day, and two up was being played. So I’ve just checked, apparently the game is now legal in all states on Anzac Day with Queensland being the last of the states to agree it.
