I live in a Inner-North Suburb, Gilbertson and I think it’s great living here. It’s a nice looking area, great viarty of public transport to get me to and from the city and I like living close to town

Thank you for your feedback Jenna, much appreciated and I’m sure it will be helpful to those considering moving to the area. I’ve only ever been to Adelaide once, I liked what I saw. I’m probably due another visit soon. Cheers, Bob

    Hi,

How do we classify a capital city inner city suburb ? Is it based on distance to the CBD ? Thanks,

    • BobinOz August 22, 2022, 4:40 pm |

Yes, “inner” means closer to the CBD.

Hi We are looking into which suburbs have good schools. East and Henley Beach is pretty expensive especially when we will have to start looking for jobs once we there.
Can yoy suggest any other areas and schools that we can look into.

    • BobinOz January 25, 2019, 5:08 pm |

It might be worth taking a look at my main page about Adelaide and looking at the comments made there about the schools, as it’s a busier page than this one. You may even want to ask your question again there and hope are local can help you out.

Failing that, my page Which school? can help you research.

    Hi Bob,
We are Shantal & Sando, from India looking to move to Australia, more specifically Adelaide. We are 25 & 28 years old respectively. As per the information provided by the immigration agent, (securing a Permanent Residency) Canberra & Adelaide are the options available to us based on Shantal’s job profile. The agent believes Shantal is more suited to be the primary candidate(as per informal assessment conducted by them).

Shantal currently works as a school counselor, having completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of Mumbai, India. She has 2.5 years of work experience in this field.

I have completed my Masters in International Business, from the Grenoble Graduate School of Business (Singapore). I have 5 years of experience in Sales in the diamond jewellery industry.

We have a few queries/concerns about migrating to Australia, more specifically Adelaide & Canberra that we would like you or any of the others to address before we make our final decision about the move.
    1. What are the job markets for a school counselor & sales & marketing professional in these two places?
    2. What would be a starting monthly salary we could both expect?
    3. What would be a good housing option to pursue – rent? buy? – besides these two any other kind of avenue we could consider, given that we will be on a shoe string budget for the first few months?
    4. Which part/parts of Canberra or Adelaide are best to reside in, with respect to commute, proximity to the main town etc etc? We have little or no idea of either of these two places.
    5. Average monthly expense for two adults- food, maintenance, utilities etc.
    6. What benefits can we expect on obtaining our PR? – Insurance, health coverage etc.?

Although I’m sure there is a lot more we need to be informed about prior to our decision to migrate, we would really appreciate your help on the above queries.
    Thanking you in advance,
    Sando

Gosh, that’s a very long list of questions, none of which are really relevant to this particular page about inner Adelaide. They are also questions that are not easily answered, for example, I couldn’t possibly know whether it’s best for you to rent or buy in your situation.

I think you need to have a good look around some of the main pages on my website as you will find lots of information about all of the topics you have mentioned here. Look particularly under the Migration Advice section from the main navigation menu for my pages about house prices, jobs and the cost of living.

It would also be a good idea if you looked the following page about finding work once you get here…

Great page with lots of information. Some of the suburbs are listed in the strictly geographic groups. You’ve put these in “South” – Eastwood, Fullarton, Glen Osmond, Glenunga, Goodwood, Hawthorn, Highgate, Hyde Park, Kingswood
    Malvern, Millswood, Parkside, Springfield, Unley,
Geographically, they may be borderline, but some of these consider themselves to be the pinnacle of suburbs and part of the “Leafy Green East”. Note the capital letters. Unley Park possibly has the most expensive real estate in the Adelaide area. And locals refer to the eastern suburbs with ……. feelings of superiority.

I live in Glandore (which I can’t find here). It’s 5km south west, between Glenelg and the city centre. So I am not writing this with an agenda.

    • BobinOz February 28, 2016, 9:10 pm |

I have to say, when I did the research for all the suburbs in all the major cities in Australia, it was a nightmare. Obviously I don’t know every suburb intimately myself :-), so I was relying on information I found on the Internet.

I’m afraid there have been some errors, but it’s great that people like yourself come in here and correct them or add more information about them.

As for your suburb, Glandore, according to my research back in 2011 it doesn’t exist. But you seem to have a pretty good Internet connection from there, so it probably does 🙂 and I probably went past it on the train when I went to Glenelg.

Is 75k a good income to live in Inner Adelaide?

    • BobinOz February 12, 2016, 8:46 pm |

Just you or plus family? You need to do a budget really, because much depends on accommodation and transport costs. You can look into it thoroughly using the information on my pages The Cost of Living in Australia of Everything and How much do you need?.

Finding an apartment in inner Adelaide would be difficult under $1500 a month – gas, electricity not included.

Being in Brisbane, I don’t know, hopefully someone will answer you here. If not, have a look at my main page about Adelaide and check out the comments, I seem to remember this has been covered there before.

    Good day,

I would like to ask about finding jobs in South Australia especially in the field of aviation, I have experience in Civil Aviation as an engineer.
I will arrive to South Australia next month

    regards

    • BobinOz November 27, 2014, 5:20 pm |

      Hi Nashat

There is quite a bit of talk on my main page on Adelaide about finding work in the city, not much of it is positive. Maybe you should have a read of the comments over there and if you wish, ask this question again as you may get a better response from people who live in that city from that page as more people read it

Also do check out my page called Getting a Job or a Sponsorship.

      Good luck, Bob

    Hi There,

Great website lots of really useful information. I have one question I am currently awaiting my skills assessment and am hoping to get a visa 489 and am taking my partner. The immigration office said my partner is included in my visa application do I need to be getting anything doen for my partner. I am not claiming points for him. I then read that a partner visa can take 5 months on tge IMMi site I am beginning to panic. Do you have any info on whether I need to be getting any evaulations done for him. Will I need to submit police checks and medicals for him?

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

    Best wishes
    Susie

    • BobinOz June 11, 2014, 5:56 pm |

I’m not sure of the precise process, but immigration will let you know precisely what you need to do. You will certainly need to submit police checks and medicals, but only get those done when asked.

Your partner’s visa should be, assuming you are in a de facto relationship, included with your application, so it’s not a separate thing.

      Good luck, Bob
