Australia: Not Always Sun, Sea & Sand….

Australia is a desirable country in which to live, and for many people the dream is to come to live here. But Australia isn’t an idyllic paradise.

Like many countries, our politicians are hopeless. At times I think they just might just be some of the worst politicians in the world.

Sometimes we have really bad weather, at times I think it might just be some of the worst weather in the world.

Those of us who live in Australia still have to earn money, we still have to pay bills and we also have to pay our taxes. And Australia will not cure your back pain.

That said, it is still a great place to live. And the best way to continually remind yourself of that, is to enjoy this country’s natural beauty. A couple of weeks ago we did that when we went to Moreton Island.

Those of you who read my post called Our Moreton Island Weekend and watched the video, will know that our first attempt at having a helicopter tour around the island didn’t quite work out.

The helicopter wouldn’t start!

You will also know that we went back the next day and successfully took to the air. Here’s a sneak preview of how that looks, but you’ll see a lot more in the video that is coming up….

TangaloomaThe ride cost $240 for the three of us, you can now join us for free. Elizabeth actually squealed with excitement when the helicopter finally took off; worth every cent.

Yes, our Moreton Island weekend was one of those occasions that reminded us exactly why we moved to Australia and why we love it here so much.

As the late great Bill Hicks said, “It’s just a ride…..”

I’m not the kind of guy who would tell anyone there too old for anything, but I have to say, you have left it a bit late in life. Anyway, you should be retired by now, whittling a stick and staring at a river somewhere!! 🙂

If you were hoping for a serious answer, I can’t give you one of those, you need to speak to a MARA agent, but I think they would have to be some extraordinary circumstances somewhere if you were to find a way in.

      Good luck, Bob

Choppers scare the hell out of me, so thanks for the ride. Briefly thought a ride on the Gold Coast would be nice, but then one fell into the carpark at Sea World, just to remind me. Sea plane will have to suffice.

Keep it coming Bob, thanks for the laughs.

    Cheers

Thankfully, ours ‘fell’ into the helicopter carpark very gently. You are welcome, glad you enjoyed the ride.

You are all very ‘brave’ after that non-start the evening before. Thankfully, once it started it kept going … I’d have taken the hint. You all really live life to the full, what a great family, you deserve the best!

I did get slightly nervous when I noticed the pilot was wearing a parachute. I’m sure he wasn’t wearing one the day before.

Seriously, if the pilot was happy to fly, so were we.

Hey Bob, I am interested in the stuff you write.

I am not a whinge-ing Pom or a Septic Tank (Yank) or Afghani for that matter. I am a real dinkum Aussie, oi oi oi!

I am a lucky husband and father of 6 young Aussies, and I constantly remind our tribe how lucky we are to live where we live, and not to take for granted the fact that we get 3 meals a day with a roof over our heads.

We are also very lucky because we make regular trips between Sydney and Brisbane to various coastal locations that sometimes we can get a bit o-hum about. But the reality is we get to enjoy some of the best beaches and countryside that Australia has to offer.

Today, I would like to tell you about Hawks Nest. We go there every Christmas when school breaks up. We stay in this old house about 200 metres from the beach. It is like heaven. It’s unspoilt, not much to do, so I guess it’s good for the kids to stay connected with their siblings.

I won’t bang on anymore, but to say that I think you are doing a good job here, and that if you like I could write a report occasionally about the latest family trip we have done.

    Bye for now, Gerry

      Hi Gerry

I’m a proper Aussie now too, been one over a month 🙂

I haven’t been to Hawks Nest, but I have driven down that coastline. Budgewoi, The Entrance, Caves Beach, lovely part of the country. Plenty of beach for everyone.

I’m glad you know how lucky you are, I feel very lucky to be here too.

Almost forgot. Yes, I’d love to hear about your family trips from down that way. Send me some pictures as well and I’ll certainly put them online.

      Cheers

      Bob
