We’ve got a day off today for the Queen’s Birthday. Have you?

But, of course, it’s not HRH’s big day today. Last year I did a post about the Queen’s Birthday and I asked the question…
‘I’m not sure how old she is today, or even if today is her actual birthday. After all, nobody has a birthday that ALWAYS falls on a Monday, do they?’
Well, last year she was 84 and this year she’s 85. And she must be mightily confused, because it’s not her birthday at all and never has been in June. Her birthday is 21 April. But that’s why it’s great to be a Queen.

Here in Australia, apart from Western Australia, we observe the Queen’s Official Birthday on the second Monday in June. I think this dates back to 1788 and probably was the actual birth day of the King at the time.
In Western Australia, if you’re interested, they celebrate it in September. Apparently the June date clashed with something.
Anyway, I’d like to talk about this in much greater length, but I’m on holiday.
But it would be rude of me to go without saying ‘Happy birthday ma’am!’
Lucky Queen, we’re celebrating her birthday in Perth tomorrow since she is here We normally celebrate it in September, because, well, that’s when the Royal Agricultural Show is on and for no other reason that it’s as good a time as any for a Public Holiday.

Maybe they mixed up Hubby Prince Philip’s birthday (June 10) with the Queen’s (April21)?
You’d need to be pretty sozzled to confuse Prince Philip with the Queen! Well, maybe they did.
Sort of. I’m all for a Head of State, and I have nothing against the Queen personally – I think she’s worth the money. She’s preferable to Tony Blair (although Stephen Fry would be interesting). It’s the whole bloody lot of them I can’t stand.
Prince Andrew is an utter waste of tax-payers money and he’s a crook. Then there are all those other minor royals living off the state because it’s their birthright, just so they can hand out prizes at sporting events and village fetes. They’re not really inspirational to our children are they? They’re not even that interesting or smart. It’s also redundant to aspire to be like them – so what’s the point?
And… just to round off my rant. I work in the private sector and I’m self-employed, so Bank Holidays are days without pay which I can’t enjoy because the roads are jammed and everything is fully booked!
I think the newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will completely modernise and overhaul the monarchy when her Madge pops her ruby slippers and the Queen’s Birthday Bank Holiday will be replaced by a holiday celebrating Australia’s independence from an out-dated system that isn’t fit for purpose.

I wouldn’t rely on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shaking things up too much, we all thought that about Princess Fergie at the time and she turned out to be the dodgiest out of all of them! And that wasn’t easy.
Whatever happens, as long as we get to keep our bank holding, I’m sure most Australians would be fine with that.
