Global Warming? More Like Global Wetting!

As they say, “When it rains, it pours”.

I have no intention of turning this blog into The Weather Channel, (as I said last winter) but over this last week or so the talk here has been all about the weather. I’ve already mentioned the towns that have been flooded in south-west Queensland, but following events of the weekend, it’s clear that this rain thing is spreading.

Last year, Melbourne went more than 30 days without rain. The official figures show that in January 2009 they had 1 mm of rain, in February it was 3 mm and finally, in March they were delighted to see 39 mm of rain during the month.

But this March, they got all of the rain they received between January and March of last year, and more, much much more, in just two days.

In fact, I believe most of it fell within an hour, like this. It starts slowly, but stick with it….

Here in Australia it’s been called the “Big Wet”. I think some western areas of France know all about “le grande pluie” aswell, they got hit along with parts of Spain and Portugal just last month.

In Melbourne and the surrounding areas, already 20,000 insurance claims have gone in, so there’s quite a few people who were not so delighted to see the rains fall THIS March. Here, Brisbane’s Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine dams are at 93.8 per cent as water continues to pour in. I’ve never known it so high.

Yes, it seems we’ve got us some global wetting.

That is very sound advice from the guy on the radio. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining. On the one hand, “DANG! It’s the end of the world!” But on the other hand, “look how much money I’ve saved on buying Christmas presents.”

The olympics will be fine! It’s not supposed to be until 21/12/2012. End of the Mayan calendar or something like that. Not too sure what that has to do with anything but theyre predicting all sorts of crazy weather phenomena.

A radio presenter made me chuckle the other day about this, he said make sure you don’t bother buying any christmas presents until the 22nd, then you wont have wasted any money if it does happen… lol 😉

Yes, I think I’ve heard about what you refer to. It’s not the Olympics in London is it? Isn’t the world is supposed to end, really, really, in 2012? If it does, I probably will blog about it.

Even if we don’t get through, I’ll give it a try.

I just hope this isnt the build up to what some say we’re due in 2012…;) but that’s another story and no doubt i’ll read about in your blog…if we get through.

    Zel: impressive downpour huh?

Tobey: I agree entirely, there is no global warming in terms of it’s our fault because of what we have done to the planet. I just thought it was a catchy title. But I do think we are experiencing some crazy weather lately, thanks to the Sun (quite naturally) going through a bit of a hotspot phase.

But global warming does exist, it’s an industry.

There is no global warming !
There is only a little climate changing.

Wow! I’ve never seen a street turn into a river like that! I can’t believe how quickly it was coming down! Even with Tropical Storm Fay here in Melbourne, FL two years ago it wasn’t that bad.

Yeah, I’m waiting for you to turn up with your camera too. You can be my “Melbourne Correspondent”.

I’m sure it will rain again there, but it may be some time before it rains as hard as that!

The video is cool…I love the rains…I could do without the hails though. Wish I was in Melbourne and could have shot even better videos with voice over for ya! Soon …soon!
