Kate and Wills in Australia: And a Kangaroo Skipping

Top of the news every night this week has been the Kate and Wills show. Prince William was here back in March 2011, I know because I remember him being treated to a sausage sizzle.

It’s good to hear that both Kate and Wills enjoyed another sausage sizzle in the Blue Mountains according to the Daily Telegraph. I know millions of you around the world right now will be wondering how to cook a sausage sizzle; wonder no more.

I did explain it on my post An Action Packed Exciting Weekend Here in Queensland with a video, but to save you shooting over there, here it is again…

They came to Brisbane the other day, but only briefly. Mrs Bob myself were a bit too busy to go into the city to greet them. Elizabeth went though with some friends and their parents.

Bring daddy back a photograph of Kate and Wills for my blog, will you?” I asked.

Not too difficult, you would have thought, she has her own iPod/camera and she knows how to use it. So, here’s the picture…

Where's Kate?

Well, they are in there somewhere, that’s why everyone else is standing on everyone else taking pictures.

They do have great support down here though, when they got married we had Kate and Wills Fever Down Under. So much so, Republicans around here went a bit quiet.

When they got married, we literally had William and Kate in Australian TV Takeover Bid.

The Kangaroo

It was a lot quieter where I was though. As the crowds swelled in the city, 15 kilometres away in a front garden not far from where I live, there was nobody about at all.

Well, apart from this fella…

Just seeing the kangaroo in the garden reminds me of last weekend, when I took my son for a walk. We passed the local hospital and a bus shelter up against a wall, with lots of rubbish down the back, on the other side of the road.

Then I saw something move. I didn’t know what it was at first and only saw it for a moment, but I’m sure it was a rat.

Now a rat on it’s own isn’t much of a surprise – they do say here in the UK you are never more than 10 feet (I think) from a rat. And I’m not scared of rats – used to have some as pets, and they can be sweet (well, not wild ones obviously). But this one (and I was wearing my glasses) was the size of a medium-sized cat, seemingly over a foot from nose to hindquarters (had I included the tail it would have been much longer).

On Kate and Wills – we get them on the news here too. This is what they did today, and then they’ll be doing this etc. This is to be expected, they are part of our royal family obviously. When I was in Chicago in 2011 someone asked me if I went to the royal wedding, to which I replied “no, but we enjoyed the extra day off”.

Yes, I do actually sometimes keep up-to-date with the UK News, and one of the popular online tabloids has recently been showing pictures of rats the size of cats that appear to be cropping up here and there.

Obviously they are getting hold of plenty of food…

What a cute kangaroo! Skippity-skip! And, wow, is that your front garden? I’ve only seen that much garden space in the old mansion neighbourhoods.

      Yes, very cute eh?

And no, that’s not my front garden, I was just visiting. Lots of houses around here in Brisbane’s western suburbs do have gardens like that though, and they don’t all belong to millionaires.
